Theme Parties – tons of ideas, less preparation

Wedding Party Themes

While most people think that hosting a theme wedding is only for the rich and famous, the fact is that theme weddings are more about creativity, out-of-the-box ideas and the zest to do something different from the usual. The concept of a theme wedding is catching up in India in a big way. Here are some ideas you may want to consider when planning a theme wedding.

The Regal Way – “Live Life King Size” —  Medieval, Roman and Victorian-style weddings are some of the very popular themes in the West. In India, the Mughal and Rajput cultures have caught the imagination of generations since the days of yore. In fact, traditionally, royal/regal styled settings are some of the most time-tested themes.

By the Beach – If you are living in a coastal city/town or are in close proximity to the coastline, think no further! Beach theme would be the most ideal wedding idea. Getting married by the sea can be a dream come true for most couples. And here’s your chance to turn this dream into reality. In India, Goa and Kerala are the most popular destinations for beach weddings.

Colour Splash – Designing your wedding with color themes is perhaps the most feasible and economical ways of giving a personal touch to your wedding. “We had planned a wedding with a theme synonymous to the spring season by fusing two pastel colours. We chose orange and green to emulate the colour of mehndi. Wet mehndi exudes a lovely green hue and orange kicks in whence dry. To further accentuate this theme we used cloth bags dyed in natural ink to wrap hand-picked gifts, served food on traditional carts and used warm orange lights to match the décor. Marigold was the decorative flower used for its auspicious and traditional characteristics and baskets were used as center pieces in lieu of fish bowls and were filled evenly by this lovely flower and roses by the heaps,” recollects Mukta.

Regional flavours – India is a land of diverse cultures, languages, traditions and geographical characteristics. If you wanna lend a regional flavour to your wedding, the choices are wide ranging. And with inter-regional marriages on the rise in India, you can creatively cement the bonding between two families belonging to two different cultures. For instance, if it’s a Bengali- Gujarati wedding, you can keep the dinner theme Bengali with a sit down dining, classical music in background, and formal dress code. For entertainment, add an element of Gujarati folk with traditional Garba dancers.

Indian Market Theme – If you are a little adventurous then you may try out an Indian market theme. An improvised version of a typical bazaar with loads of entertainment and food stalls, the theme would be perfect for those who belong to the clan of gypsy at heart. This mish-mash of a wedding is sure to deliver a lot of exciting moments not only for guests but also for the hosts.

Still confused, all you need is to mingle your food, entertainment and props so that your guests can enjoy food and entertainment at the same time. It would be a good idea let your guests a little exploring opportunity around the mini market that you have set up for them.

Pool Theme – A poolside ceremony and reception does not call for the formality of a seated reception. You may opt for a variety of furniture styles to create a unique and inviting gathering spot for guests. Try high-top cocktail tables with bar stools near the bar for an impact. Rather than going in for couches or anything plush the best furniture for such a wedding would be an ample use of wrought-iron sofas with bright cushions or adirondack chairs to create seating areas for guests. If you’re having an afternoon wedding, place umbrellas on the pool deck to offer guests some shade.

Boat Party Theme – The graceful, private ambience of the wedding ceremony on Yacht offers one of its kind opportunity for individuals that desire to stay away from having their celebration in the public eye of a restaurant, golf course or hotel.

Designing you wedding with eye catching decors and settings makes for great photo opportunities. So go ahead and plan an out-of-the-box theme!
